So what can I offer you?

Do you want me to video your music?

Whether it be the desire to reflect on your recent performance, the need to submit a promotional DVD or online video of a recent show, or you simply want to revisit that time you took that sublime stage dive that broke three ribs... I may be able to help... and the best part?... it is very affordable!

Online music video sites such as YouTube have revolutionised the music industry. Not only have these sites become a great way for artists to share music worldwide, but they have also empowered musicians to get themselves out there and show everyone what they've got. No longer are musicians at the beck and call of talent squatters and music distribution companies. Everyone can earn their part in musical history.

With an internet plagued with scams and 'get famous quick schemes' a raw video of one of your shows can be a great way to show that you are genuine, live up to the hype, and as well as sounding amazing on your CD, you also look amazing in your live act. It is also becoming increasingly rare for a festival bookers not to ask for a sample DVD or online video link in order to see the act in an actual performance setting.

So why hire me?

I am aware that there are a number of great video production companies in Perth which will do an extremely pro job for you and I have linked to some of them in my resources page, however these guys do charge a premium for their high quality services and typically focus on the corporate and wedding video markets.

I discovered not too long ago that many musicians either can't afford such services or are quite content with a less professional video which captures the 'vibe' of the gig. Whilst I admit my video production gear is not top of the line, it is perfectly adequate for creating a great video of your show. If you are concerned about the quality however, have a look at some examples which give a good feel for what you will end up with. Of course the DVD's will be encoded at full resolution unlike the compressed web videos shown here.

One of my cameras also records in High Definition Video, so if you want to see that pimple on your chin, I might just might be able to make it happen. I can also customise your video to suit your individual requirements and may also promote you by including a sample of your work on my friends page.

Why so cheap I hear you say? Well:

  • I love checking out live gigs and new music (and to get in the door for free is a bonus)
  • I have purchased all the camera gear and editing software for other projects anyway... but most importantly
  • I have the skills to film and edit up a great vid for you, and therefore feel comfortable charging the comparatively small fee for something that could really help a fellow muso out!

So can you cut to the chase?

Since times are tough and I would love to get things rolling, I am offering 2 camera coverage of a set (up to an hour long) plus a DVD with your songs for only $100 for the first 10 people to book my services*. So if you have a gig coming up, even if it is months away, then give me a call and I may be able to book you in!

*NOTE there may be additional fees to cover my transport to and from your gig if the location is outside the Perth central metro area.

An Example Video

Here is an example video of the band Zigatango in which I play accordion. Of course a friend videoed this gig, but I did all the editing, and compressed and uploaded the piece to YouTube. You may also want to watch the high definition version in stereo to see what it sounds like in stereo.

Technical Info

Hopefully this gives you a feel for the sort of video I can put together for you. With two cameras in operation I can place one as a long shot capturing the whole group, while the other does close ups on the performer(s) or instruments. The audio channels are then panned one left and one right to give you a full stereo sound. In addition, if the mixing desk supports it, I can take a line out on a USB stick (or thumb drive) and mix this high quality audio into the final footage. This is advisable if the performance is going to be excessively loud causing unwanted distortion in my poor little video camera's microphones.

More about the gear

Here is a list of the gear I have available:

  • I have two 3CCD camcorders, one High Definition.
  • 2 tripods - reducing the unwanted shaky camera effect
  • Adobe Premiere 2.0 and Encore 1.5 for video and sound editing and DVD authoring
